Author’s Note: Nope, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. This is the second half of Part 3 of my Favorite Episodes post, posted on here just mere hours after the first one. This is a new record for me.

It’s finally here – the final part of my love and appreciation of the awesome episodes that make up the world of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. With Season Seven as the last season of the series, I made an editorial decision to showcase all 22 episodes with this post, while highlighting my favorites from this season. Buffy has come a long way from being the naïve cheerleader that she was when she first discovered her calling, to be a battle-hardened young woman who has lost a lot and loved a lot, and in the end ultimately prevailed against evil (for the time being, until her story continued in comic form).

In Season Seven, Buffy reluctantly welcomed back a former frenemy who would step up and help her, slowly mending the pain their destructive relationship had left behind.  She would also say “goodbye” to two former lovers, though one re-enters her life in the comic series. She will fall yet again but remain the victor, and she has an army of young woman who became Slayers – through a powerful spell that shared her strength – to help fight her most dangerous Big Bad of the series: The First Evil itself.

It was a very sad and emotional day for me when I watched the original airing of the final episode. I was a month shy of my 22nd birthday, back in 2003, and I was still living at home with my parents. I remember watching the episode with tears refusing to fall from my eyes until the final scene. I had watched my two other favorite shows disappear in 2001 and 2002: Xena, Warrior Princess and The X-Files, but I felt much more satisfied with Buffy’s ending, though it took some reflection over the past few years to come to that point. Well, the Xena and X-Files finales kinda sucked, but I say that out of love and respect for those shows. That final scene at the end of “Chosen,” with the Scooby Gang (Faith included) looking on as they stared at the sinkhole that formerly held Sunnydale was a powerful shot, and the funniest  moment was seeing the “Welcome to Sunnydale” sign finally toppling over the edge of the massive sinkhole. The poor sign had to deal with Spike running into it twice, and I think it decided to just give up and go out gracefully to its untimely demise.

I have many thoughts and feelings and emotions wrapped up in this season. When it originally aired it was my least favorite, but now as I’ve grown older and have been going back to watch a lot of my favorite shows from the beginning, I have a lot more admiration and respect for it. It’s hard to come up with 22 episodes and tell a unique story in each, knowing that the end of the show is nigh, but Joss and his team of writers did a fine job.

Join me as I take a walk through memory lane as I dedicate this final “Favorite Episodes” post to the final season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. As stated in the first half of this final part, I am posting this now with my thoughts included at a later time, after things have settled down in my personal life.

There are spoilers, so please proceed with caution.

Tomorrow, Willow will use the essence of the Scythe to change our destiny. From now on, every girl in the world who might be a Slayer, will be a Slayer. Every girl who could have the power, will have the power, can stand up, will stand up. Slayers…every one of us. Make your choice. Are you ready to be strong?” – Buffy
